Losice Memorial.
Nowy komentarz / New comment Losice Memorial. [14-09-2006, 10:26PM]  Viktor Lewin
In 2003 more than 1500 Jewish gravestones were recovered from a property in Losice. They had been removed by the Nazis from the Jewish cemetery in 1942. They were then used to pave a courtyard, create stone fences, and even line the interior of a bunker which still exists upon the property. We have been able to translate inscriptions on the stones which indicate the early 1800s, however we have indications from the Yizkor book that the community existed even earlier than that. Some of these gravestones may be viewed at:www.zchor.org/losice/matzevot.htm.
It is our intention to create a memorial using these gravestones at the site of the pre-war Jewish cemetery in Losice.
