Prof. Moses Schorr Foundation
Our aim
Our Foundation was created to promote and implement the educational goals of Prof. Moses Schorr (1873-1941), a renowned rabbi, historian, teacher, activist and senator. The Foundation creates and develops an education program that fosters understanding of Judaism, Jewish history and the tradition of Polish Jews. The program is implemented through the Education Center run by our Foundation and supported financially by the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation.
Target group
We are open to everyone. Our programs are directed not only at Jews, but also at anyone interested in Jewish culture, because understanding the Jewish tradition fosters tolerance and respect. Program participants with a Jewish background reinforce their identity through learning about their
heritage. We offer in-class programs as well as distance learning, which allows us to serve the inhabitants of Warsaw and those from all over Poland.
How we make it happen
Over 200 people attend classes in the Center. Most of them are Hebrew program participants. We have created a unique Hebrew teaching program designed for a Polish-speaking audience. The Judaism program consists of five areas: Jewish Texts, Jewish Life Cycle, Ethics and Law, and Jewish Nation. We also invite our program participants to join "Israeli Reunions," a framework consisting of lectures on political history of Israel, screenings of Israeli movies, Hebrew conversation classes on social and political processes taking place in Israel.

Hebrew language correspondence courses, as well as information published on the website www.schorr.edu.pl are meant to meet the needs of students living outside Warsaw. Currently there are about 70 correspondence course participants; our website has about 1000 hits a month.
Together with the Educational Department of the Jewish Agency (SOCHNUT) and the Lauder-Morasha schools, we organize vocational training for Hebrew and Judaism teachers affiliated with other organizations, and through that we support the development of Jewish communities nationwide.
In order to promote the life and work of Prof. Moses Schorr we have created an exhibition and have designed a multimedia presentation "The Books of Life of Prof. Moses Schorr". With its structure developed in cooperation with a (Polish multimedia) company Genero, the main goal of the presentation is to illustrate Jewish life cycle and Jewish faith through the life of Moses Schorr. Owing to the support of his family and our research, we are in possession of the world's largest archive of information about his life. We hope that this project will inspire online visitors to learn more about Jewish culture.
