Zegota Memorial

The Zegota Memorial is on ul. Anielewicz, not far from the Monument to the Heroes of the Ghetto. The Zegota Memorial commemorates the activities of the Council of Aid to the Jews, known as “Zegota”, during the period 1942-1945. The memorial, an oblisk, was designed by H. Szlamberg and M. Moderau, with funding from the Polish émigré community in America.
The inscription, in three languages – Hebrew, Polish and English – describes Zegota’s role in saving Jews during the war. The memorial was unveiled by Władysław Bartoszewski, the last living member of that organization, on September 27, 1995.
